DubaiTanouraDancers.com books tanoura dancers and Arabic folklore troupes for weddings, corporate galas, desert camp evenings and private parties in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Tanoura is a folk dance from Egypt that grew out of Sufi whirling. The dancer spins in one spot while a wide, layered skirt turns around him like a disc. During the show he lifts the layers and spins a smaller skirt above his head.
Choose a traditional tanoura with bright stacked skirts, an LED tanoura with programmable lights for a dimmed ballroom or an evening outdoors, or an extended set with a costume change. A drummer or a small folk trio can play live instead of a recorded track. Large events can book more than one dancer or a fire tanoura.
Many events add a second act. An ayala and yola troupe with canes and drums suits National Day, government events and grand arrivals. A dabke troupe brings a Levantine line dance to the dance floor and pulls guests into the line.
A standard 15 to 20 minute show usually costs AED 1,500 to AED 2,200, and an LED tanoura show AED 2,000 to AED 3,000. The dancer needs a clear circle about 2.5 to 3 metres across.
